Sicily

We docked in Messina and unlike the cruise ship that slammed into the pier in Venice, we gentley kissed the bumpers. I took a tour called The Land of the Godfathr." We went through Messina and then headed south along the coastline where we could easily see mainland Italy.

The drive itself was worth the trip. Everything was so, just, Italian. Savoca is where many scenes of the movie, The Godfather, was filmed. It was a dangerous but beautiful drive to get to up to this remote little town. Stopped at the Bar Vitelli for a lemon granita just like the Godfather.

Next we were of to the second location in the filming, Forza d'Agro. It was even smaller but, all the more beautiful for it. I had a great slice of pizza at Antichi Muri in Plazza Cammareri. It was so different from American pizza.  It was a combinatio of artwork and gourma cooking. That with a Birra Morette beer and finished off with a perfect canolli. It should be perfect.  Sicily is were canolli was invented. A slow relaxed lunch by a nice fountain and over-looking the Mediterranian. Nice.

The switchback roads were amazing.  I would love to drive then in a sporty Bemmer. I watched our bus's windshield moved across only inches from a rock face and the rear wheels barely on the pavement of the inside of the curve. We had a good driver.  A saw several buses that had to back up after pulling into the switchback in order to make it around. We didn't stop anywhere, much less have to back up and manuever.

Three more days in Italy.
