Roma!

All roads lead to Rome. It is a shame we were in Rome for only one day, because there is just so much to see and so much history. It was a long day.  All I could get in was to take the train in from the port in Civitavercchia.  At least it was smooth and over 100 mph.

I was with friends Bob and Betsy, who are by the way now an item. Too cute. We hopped on an On and Off Bus and made the rounds of the city in the open air of the top deck. The weather was just slightly warm so that the breeze of the moving bus evened the temperature perfectly. I even had on my Italian light blue fedora for both shade and a fashion statement. Buongiorno Amici Miei!

We saw the giant Roma Terminal Station. Trains coming and going and the station as large and elaborate as a major airport. Moving walkways, huge terminals, backed up cab stand, more buses than trains outside: busy, busy, busy.

History is in every block and building of Roma, from castles and churches, to pieces of aqueducts, fountains and ancient statues.  We saw St. Mary Major, Circo Massio where Christians were killed and the Colosseum where they weren't. Also the Piazza Venezia and the Vatican. You could spent years in Roma and not see everything. Saluti.

I guess this a "Dad in shorts with his briefcase and his daughter in pigtails running" area.

Circus Maximus.  250,000 spectators could attend events.

  2. Had to go back and look again. I am amazed at the skill of the masons and artists who built those buildings and the statuary.
