The battle of Leyte Gulf in WWII was fought just off shore and was the largest naval battle in history. Now it is a beautiful tropical island with many more trike cabs and scooters than cars and trucks. In fact the only semi-truck I saw had four people riding on the frame between the cab and trailer. There were no seatbealts in the open air cabs either. The trike cabs are actually motocycles with an attached cab that, depending on the build, rides one to three passengers while the driver is strattling the motorcycle. There are thousands and thousands of these trikes everywhere on the streets.
I went first by the Municipal Police Headquarters and introducted myself. I was well received and talked at lenght about their's and our issues. Most of their crimes are theft, very little drug or weapons issues. Civilians are not allowed to openly carry. They have domestic violence issues similar to ours. I tried to explain railroad police to them. They don't have railroads there. They do have a seperate Tourist Police.
Next we went to Immaculate Conception Cathedral. What a beautful church. There were more Jesuses in one place than I've ever seen and I graduated from Loyola. Here are some pictures.
Then we went around town. I saw traffic, little crowded shops all along the streets, people, people people everywhere and a park commenorating an American Army camp that was over run by the Japanese and the prisoners sent to Burma on the infamous Death March.

No buy - no park. You buy - you park. |
