Wedding Bells Ring!

There always seems to be a silver lining. Betsy Horner and Bob Brown had become a couple on the ship and then he has a heart attack. Betsy's husband died on this ship on an earlier World Cruise from the same thing.

We were told by doctors that the second day Bob was doing great and could return to the ship the next day.  We went to the hospital expecting to bring him back to the ship.  Then we learn he's had a stroke that morning and would be hospitalized for almost a week more. She was in near shock and she she and I stayed ashore as the Insignia sailed on.

While the three of us we sitting around in his hospital room in Cardiac ICU he asked her to sit on the bed with him. They had changed his medication and he looked so much better and his spirits were up again.

He took her hand and said, "Will you make me the happiest man in the world?" She smiled and said yes. He said directly, "Will you marry me?" Again, she said yes. Then he started singing I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner to her.

That wasn't enough.  He was all smiles and got out his phone, found Waiting for a Girl Like You, played and sang it to her.  She said, "I'm no girl."  Bob is 70-something and has never been married.  Quite a wait. Betsy had been married 50 years. They are not an odd-couple though. They are a very cute, sweet couple.

Everyone on the ship knew this was eventually going to happen.  We all just figured it would be after they got back to states to see if Betsy's two greyhounds approved of him.

So at the end of all this, so far, their thinking was that there's no time to waste. It is turning out alright. They may even get back on the cruise in Halifax, which is just a short flight from NYC, if his health continues to improve as doctors expect.

There may even be a wedding aboard ship. Guess who the Best Man is going to be.
