Livorno, Italy

Livorno is one of the most important ports in Italy.  It is on the upper western coast. It is a lovely place and close to Florence, Pisa and Tuscany. I just wandered around the port, had a nice lunch and visited with some friends off the ship.

The monument below commemorates the victories of Ferdinanado I of Tuscany over the Ottomans that repeatedly attacked the city. He is on top and the pirates are in chains below him. The four corners on the base represent the four corners of the earth.  The Monument of the Four Moors was completed in 1626.

Italian Guardia Coatiera.
