Barcelona is for Lovers

I've seen more couples passionately kissing in public than I've seen in the whole world combined.  Maybe it's Spring.  Maybe it's the perfect weather. Maybe it's the beaches or the romantic feel of the city with it's mix of modern and ancient buildings, statues, monuments and outdoor works of art. Maybe it is all of these things.

The people are beautiful.  I think over half of them are running or riding bikes or swimming in the Med at the city beaches. I have to admit that a good deal of my site-seeing was of the beautiful Spanish women.

I got to Barcelona just before the sun set and got the chance to see the city at night. Lights, music and gaiety were in the air. Troops of teenagers in packs of a dozen or more sped around the giant traffic circle on skateboard type scooters with a little white LED headlight on the center of the handle-bars and a little red tail-lights maybe 3" off the ground behind the rear wheels of each. It was like a school of fish moving synchronized together though the city.

My hostel was only a couple of blocks from where my ship would come in the next morning at 10:00 am.  I was up and out of the room at 8:00 and hired a tricycle guide to take me a round the city. It was a perfect day for sight-seeing.

I eventually got back to the ship at about 1:30 in the afternoon and there still passengers just getting started after lunch to see the city. When I got back to my cabin I had a message on my phone. Paul and his wife had called to see if I'd made it Barcelona after having trouble getting to the train station in Monte Carlo the day before. I called and thanked them for checking up on me.

The ship was practically empty, with everyone out on the town or taking excursions to different attractions. I cleaned up, relaxed, read, played the dulcimer until time to meet friends for dinner. It turned out to be a nice all-round day.
