Kagoshima is at the very southern tip of mainland Japan, There is an active volcano sitting right in the bay overlooking the city. It is the most active volcano in Japan with the last eruption in May of 2017. Scientists say there should be a major eruption within the next 30 years. It has droped ash almost continuously since 1955. Other than that, it is a very nice place for the 600,000+ people living there.
My friend, Bob Brown and I went into town on our own to the train terminal. I talked Bob into riding the Bulllet Train up to the next city North and back. Once back in Kagoshima we bought One Day passes on the local transportation system of buses and streetcars. One sightseeing bus took us to almost every sight on the ship's high-dollar tours for the equivalent of $8. A good day.

No ash right now from this 3,600 foot peak but as we were leaving on the ship
(thank goodness) there was a small but steady plume of smoke coming out the top. |

Local commuter train below bullet train station. |

This is a kid's play area at the train station. |

I had a nice chicken noodle soup. Bob sat there and watched me eat. He refuses to eat or drink anything off ship. I think he worries abut getting sick from local bacteria. I've been trying local food all over. |

There was a huge Ferris Wheel on the top of the mall. I played drums in the music store inside. |

Typical street in Kagoshima |

Well kept city. Flowers everywhere. |

On the way walking back to the ship we stopped in the McDonalds to see the difference from the U.S. ones. Not much. |
