Today I was in Cuba. I was disappointed, that because of State Department regulations that came out a couple of days before I got here, I was unable to meet the local police. We had to be in a scheduled group and could have no one-on-one meetings with Cubans.
So I went on a bus tour around Havana. The weather was perfect so I made the best of it, which was pretty good since I'M IN FREACKIN' CUBA!!
Got some good shots. Bought some nice Cuban cigars and saw the repeated statements that Cuba is such a safe crime-free country weren't quite true. Every building - every house - had a security fence or wall around it, many with imbedded glass or barbed wire on top of it and every ground floor window and door had industrial grade security bars on them. Why, if it is so crime free?
The difference between the rich and poor in astronomical. The U.S. earnings gap is nothing.
The huge number of dilapidated everywhere is testament to a very poor country.
Having said all that, Cuba is a beautiful country and the people extremely resourceful.
Here a few pictures:
Good photos! It's that way in Ecuador and various countries in South America/Central America. Broken glass on the fences/walls, etc. People in the U.S. don't realize what a great country we live in til you travel internationally!
